Snopac hopes the plant can be used to process fresh and value-added sockeye salmon during the 2008 season, spokesman Norm Van Vactor told IntraFish.
Van Vactor cited a growing global demand for wild Alaska salmon, and good air freight logistics systems in Dillingham as the reason for the acquisition.
Dillingham is located on Bristol Bay, home to the world's largest wild salmon runs.
Snopac is in the process of retooling the defunkt plant with value-added production equipment.
The company acquired and revamped the M/V Snopac Innovator in 2005, the largest capacity floating salmon processor operating in Alaska.
