The United States imported 123.9 million kilograms of salmon between Jan. 1 and June 30, 1.7 percent more than the 121.8 million kilos received the first half of last year. Value of the 2009 orders was $843 million (€594.7 million), up 3 percent from $818.8 million (€577.7 million).
Despite its problems with infectious salmon anemia (ISA), Chile remains the dominant U.S. provider of farmed fresh Atlantic salmon, but the effects of lowered production can be seen in the lower number of exports.
