Prices for skipjack are rocketing in Bangkok. Some players are speculating to IntraFish it could soon hit $2,000 (€1,400) per metric ton.

This volatility is not good for the market, said a U.S.-based trader.

"From historical patterns, it appears that most are happy at the $1,200 (€840) to 1,300 fish price, with boat owners, canners and buyers able to make a reasonable living," he told IntraFish. “The cannery order books slim down fast once the fish price passes $1,500 (€1,050), with the major buyers pulling back unable to promote at those prices.”
