Christina Burridge, executive director of the B.C. Seafood Alliance, said she’s hopeful the certification process will be wrapped up in the next six months.

“I don’t want to go on year seven,” she told IntraFish.

The holdup isn’t with MSC; it’s with the many players involved in the certification process, Burridge said.

“Once something gets delayed, everything gets delayed,” Burridge said. “It took 18 months just to get an evaluation team that was acceptable to all parties. It took three years to get an agreement from the Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
