Russia’s coldwater shrimp market stagnated for the first time after years of growth last year due to Russia’s new law on glazing, said an executive at a domestic shrimp processor.

“2011 was the first year when the market did not grow for many seafood products, and many processors ended up with too much capacity,” Elena Petukhovskaya, general manager at Albatros Seafood in Russia, told IntraFish.

Since April 1 last year all shrimp sold in Russia cannot have a glazing content exceeding 7 percent -- with the level set at 5 percent on fish and 8 percent for all other seafood.
