The Alaskan Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) eco-label scheme is credible as a claim that a fishery has a management system in place but does not support a public claim of “sustainability,” said the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP).

According to SFP, the ASMI and Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) schemes are not equivalent.

“The MSC clearly sets a higher ‘pass mark’ than ASMI,” SFP said.
