In a first for fish farming, Selonda UK -- a subsidiary of Greece-based Selonda Aquaculture located on the Isle of Anglesey, Wales -- is developing a series of constructed wetlands cells for the purification of effluent water, along with other environmental initiatives.

“In the future, we hope that other fish farmers can come to us and we’ll be able to tell them what the key parameters are,” Philip Gatland, Selonda UK MD, told Intrafish.

Phase one of the wetland development comprises a grid of 14 separate reed and gravel beds with a total treatment area of just under 2000 square meters.
