President Barack Obama is receiving some high praise from conservation groups and US seafood companies after his announcement Tuesday to crack down on seafood fraud and illegal fishing, calling for all seafood sold in the United States to be sustainable and traceable.
What isn't clear yet is what the administration is going to use to define sustainabilty. According to White House sources, no decision has been made about the use of an eco-label such as the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) or a rating system such as the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch program as a sustainability standard.
