Smith, who was appointed in March 2010 in order to centralize the group’s purchasing and to beef up its frozen imports, left the company on March 25, according to sources.

The executive, who has 28 years in the seafood business and formerly worked for British Seafood company Bloomsbury International, declined to comment to IntraFish.

According to an internal email from operations director Brian Hall seen by IntraFish, the reason for Smith’s departure is a shift in purchasing strategy away from container buying.
