The Russian Far East Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (TINRO) is recommending a slight cut in the Russian pollock quota for 2014, despite the "sustainable state" of the fishery.

“Surveys have shown the population of pollock in Russian waters is in a sustainable state," a deputy for Igor Melnikov, general director of TINRO, told IntraFish. "Therefore, our recommendations don’t differ as much from the permitted catch volumes of 2013."

The recently MSC-certified Sea of Okhotsk fishery is still expected to see a 20,000-metric-ton cut in its 2014 quota, down from 920,000 metric tons this year -- as a "precautionary measure."
