The Scottish government has blocked the sale of any quotas out of Scotland.

Marine Scotland said fixed quota allocations (FQAs) can only be transferred from Scottish boats to other Scottish-registered fishing vessels pending the outcome of a consultation currently underway in Scotland on quota allocation.

The move will not affect normal quota leasing transactions being carried out with other boats/owners in the United Kingdom– it affects only FQAs.

But a Marine Scotland spokeswoman said it does mean if a vessel is sold from Scotland to elsewhere in the United Kingdom, only the vessel and license could be sold -- any attached FQAs would have to stay in Scotland.

The
