Scottish salmon production hit a nine-year high in 2012, according to figures released this week by Marine Science Scotland, reaching a milestone 162,223 metric tons.
The figures are 4.4 percent lower than the previous record levels -- in 2003 -- and a 2.7 percent increase over last year.
However, despite positive signs of growth in 2012, volumes are predicted to drop this year, with Marine Science Scotland predicting a total harvest just 152,507 metric tons in 2013.
