The Highland Council approved the construction of two new salmon sites off the Scottish island of Skye proposed by farming company Organic Sea Harvest, reports The Guardian.

The applications for the two organic farms, each consisting of 12 open-net pens, include proposals to avoid the use of certain chemicals and the use of cleanerfish to treat sea lice problems.

The approval of the farms is opposed by environmentalists and local communities claiming the impacts of the farms will be negative and raising concerns that the farms might not remain organic in the future.
