Scapeche managing director Tristan Douard has responded furiously to EU Fisheries Commissioner Maria Damanaki, commenting that DG Mare appears to have been misinformed of the results of the French Advertising Ethics Panel that forced parent company Intermarche to withdraw its advertising relating to deep-sea fishing.
“We are amazed at the report on the commission website that is available to all European citizens, which states that Intermarche misled consumers,” he said and has written to Maria Damanaki to this effect.
“What is stated on the commission website is poles apart from the results of the panel’s decision, which acknowledges our efforts towards achieving a responsible fishery on deep sea species that include black scabbard and blue ling.”
