Santa Monica Seafood saw its Atlantic salmon sales jump during the first five months of this year due to several factors, most significantly an increased demand caused by low prices, which remain stubbornly stuck at 27 percent below last year’s price levels.
“Sales of (farmed) salmon are up because prices have gone down,” Logan Kock, VP strategic purchasing and responsible sourcing for Santa Monica Seafood, told IntraFish.
Import volumes of Atlantic salmon suggest the company is one of many distributors across the United States responding to a glut of calls for the species.
