New Zealand seafood giant Sanford will launch nutraceutical products in 2017 and is eying potential marketplace partners.

The company is using the remainder of salmon from its fillet processing to turn into fishmeal, but that's not realizing enough value.

"That is a low-value outcome as it loses a lot of the salmon's nutrients," Andrew Stanley, general manager of innovation at Sanford, told IntraFish.

Instead, to fully tap into these nutrients, the company is "investigating marine extract for human and animal nutraceutical, dietary supplements and food ingredients for formulated foods."
