This is in addition to a contractually required December bonus, according to reports in Icelandic business weekly Vidskiptabladid.
The head of the company's shore production, Gestur Geirsson, said 300 staff receive this bonus and this is the second time this year that Samherji has paid a bonus over and above the valid union agreements. A bonus was also paid in the spring.
In a difficult working environment, Samherji's business has been strong and the company wanted to reward its staff for performing well in supplying some demanding customers.
