Profitability for global salmon producers was lower last year, but the majority of them remained in the black, Kolbjorn Giskeodegard, seafood analyst at Nordea Markets, told attendees of the Norwegian Seafood Federation (FHL) annual conference last week.
It was other segments of the seafood industry that struggled, for instance cod, with prices sinking to rock-bottom. Not so for salmon.
“Demand is so extreme now you could almost get the impression it is mandatory to eat salmon in Europe,” Giskeodegard said.
This, however, is now flattening out, he said.
