Norwegian salmon prices are widely expected to remain high for at least another six months this year. While it is clear that processors will continue to struggle, some industry watchers are forecasting more consolidation than ever -- where big companies swallow smaller ones.

"Small smokers are in difficulty in France," Romain Marce, production manager of Marcel Baey, told IntraFish.

With salmon prices so high, profitability is a problem, opening up opportunities for consolidation. Groups looking to invest in salmon processing will have the opportunity to buy at cheaper prices, Marce said.
