Average salmon prices are once again at around NOK 40 (€5.10/$6.80) this week, while fish sizes of more than 5 kilograms are commanding prices of as much as NOK 50 (€6.40/$8.50) per kilo.
The high harvesting of small fish has been an import driver for the price drop seen recently, according to Kolbjørn Giskeodegard, senior analyst at Nordea Markets, and the average harvesting weight last week was only 4.1 kilos compared with 4.7 kilos the same week in 2012.
“Our impression is that the steep harvesting of small sized fish driven mainly by diseases now has been reduced and that we should expect average harvesting weights to improve,” Giskeodegard said.
