The latest Norwegian Seafood Council quarterly newsletter says German consumers are now eating 34 percent more fresh salmon than they did a year ago, and growth per month has risen 50 percent compared with the same months last year.

“Going by these figures, I would call Germany is a virtual salmon locomotive emerging in Europe, said Paul Aandahl, NSC’s director for salmon and trout.

Aandahl said total German fish consumption has declined to some extent, while salmon is on the rise. This means salmon is taking market share from other seafood.
