Over the past three years, fish feed maker Skretting boosted its salmon feed production 20 percent. During the same period, the amount of fishmeal and fish oil going into its products shrank by 11 percent and 20 percent, respectively.
Critics of the aquaculture industry claim it is unacceptable to use fish feed when the raw materials could instead be used for human consumption. Companies such as Skretting quickly are overpowering that argument and demonstrating fish farming is inching ever closer to sustainability.
