The market for farmed salmon increased by 10,000 metric tons in both France and Germany last year. Sales last year improved so markedly, and prices were so high, the most experienced analyst in the Norwegian Seafood Export Council (NSEC) believes there is now a definite trend in the markets toward increased consumption of salmon.
“We thought France was no longer a growth market for salmon, but last year this market surged ahead. Our explanation is that this is consumer-driven, and the fact that you have a wide range of salmon products to choose from in France," said NSEC’s Director Jan Trollvik.
