In December EW Group, the world’s largest player in poultry genetics, raised a furor in Norway by spending NOK 430 million to buy a majority stake in Norway’s AquaGen, the world’s largest salmon and trout breeder.
Despite some calls of opposition in Norway, the deal, which was recently given the go-ahead by Norwegian authorities, gives the salmon industry an important ally in the food industry.
Following the deal’s announcement, EW Group Director Marcus Fahlsbusch said chicken and salmon would make a good team in stealing market share from the pork and beef industries.
