“The indirect benefits of salmon farming are extensive,” Scottish Salmon Producers Organization (SSPO) CEO Sid Patten said. “Businesses in the Highlands and Islands such as ice suppliers, net makers, fish vets and hauliers net nearly £3 million (€4.5 million/ $5.7 million) every week from the industry.”

The survey indicates how significant the salmon farming industry is above and beyond direct employment, said Joe Moore, chairman for the Scottish Council for Development and Industry.
