Skagerak Group -- a Hirtshals, Denmark-based company that processes salmon and pelagics -- blamed stubborn salmon farmers for the erratic raw material prices encountered the past year that saw some processors become unprofitable.
Speaking to IntraFish, Managing Director Iver Espersen said it is important farmers d\on't forget the dominant European salmon industry was forged alongside processors, and future success relied on this relationship continuing.
“We have, together with the Norwegians, built up a market for Atlantic Norwegian and Faroe salmon,” Espersen said, adding it is not just the farmers that led the expansion of the industry.
