The atmosphere among the Norwegian Seafood Federation (FHL) Aquaculture’s Board of Directors has been more harrowing than any outsider could imagine.
Now, you could perhaps sum it all up as a battle between those that are seeking a lower political risk with regard to being a fish producer in Norway and those that maintain and believe that it is possible to beat the European Union through a World Trade Organization (WTO) ruling.
One statement from the many telephone calls IntraFish received from Norwegian fish producers on Thursday and Friday, after the news broke that Lisbeth Berg-Hansen had stepped down as leader of the FHL, is illustrative of the industry’s dilemma in the complex salmon conflict with the EU.
