“Our competitive advantage is that the oil is super fresh. It tastes of delicious salmon,” Jostein Refsnes told IntraFish.
He is chairman of the Nordlaks group. In the 1990s he headed Hydro Seafood, and has many years of experience in Norwegian seafood – and other industries.
“Nordlaks’ omega-3 product is unique,” he said.
One-hour process
The oil is extracted from the fish just one hour after harvesting via offcuts from the slaughter plant and filleting factory at Stokmarknes in Nordland County.
“When the oil is that fresh, it is also so pure that the Norwegian Food Safety Authority (NFSA) has approved it for human consumption without requiring cleansing or further refinement,” said Refsnes.
Two weeks ago he launched a new product – salmon oil in gelatin capsules – at the Brussels seafood exposition.
