Salmon duty a topic at Norway, EU meeting

Foreign affairs ministry press spokeswoman Anne Lene Dale Sandsten told IntraFish the salmon issue was mentioned in general conversation between Mandelson and Norway’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jonas Gahr Store, but was not discussed at any length because Norway has taken the matter before the World Trade Organization (WTO).

In the address Mandelson gave earlier in the day at Oslo, the theme was energy safeguarding and climate, and did not touch on the salmon issue.

Cermaq CEO Geir Isaksen was a keynote speaker at the meeting, and chose to mainly talk about the punitive measures the European Union instituted against Norwegian salmon, which led to a certain amount of debate after the addresses.
