Fisheries Innovation Scotland (FIS), a non-profit distributing organization designed to bring the Scottish fisheries sector -- harvesting, processing and retail -- together with government and scientists, will launch on June 25.
The organization, founded by companies including Grimsby-based processor Young’s, UK retail chain Sainsbury’s and industry authority Seafish, is external and independent of government, but will deliver a Scottish government commitment.
Other companies involved in FIS include Scottish Natural Heritage, the Scottish Fisherman’s Federation Services and the Scottish Whitefish Producers.
FIS aims to "spearhead an on-going program of education, research and knowledge exchange," a press release announcing the upcoming launch read.
