Customers in Aberdeen, Scotland, complained after they purchased wild Alaskan salmon and were told it would not be a problem to refreeze it. The fish had already been frozen once, and Alaskan salmon should not be refrozen due to potential health risks.
After hearing of the complaints, an undercover journalist recently asked staff at a Sainsbury’s wet fish counter if it would be OK to refreeze the salmon, and was told yes, according to the report.
Sainsbury’s said the poor advice was the result of a “lapse in knowledge.”
