The sector is unhappy with low herring prices caused by a significant influx from Norway, according to to Borge Prytz -Larsen, the Norwegian director of the Russian fish import company Severnaya.

Prytz-Larsen, who has many years experience of the Russian fisheries industry says the fisheries committee is now under pressure after what was until now a "reasonable" season.

There are various other reasons for Russia setting limits on imports of herring, Prytz-Larsen said in reference to a change in the amount of salmon and trout imports since restrictions were implemented.
