The Sea of Okhotsk pollock catch reached just over 696,000 metric tons between January and April 1 of, according to the Russian Federal Fisheries Agency. Of that, around 80 percent was shipped to Korea and China.
The herring catch, meanwhile, reached 102,000 metric tons so far, again with the majority being delivered for export.
The main reason for Russian fishermen preference to deliver their catches to the South Korean and Chinese ports of Busan, Dalian and Qingdao has been the low prices for fish products in the domestic market.
