Russian authorities are planning to give incentives to Alaska pollock catchers who land and process their fish for the domestic market, Ilya Shestakov, head of Russia's Federal Agency for Fisheries, Rosrybolovstvo, announced.

Shestakov believes the Russian fish and seafood industry obtained an opportunity to strengthen its position in the domestic market. However, stimuli for the development of fish processing, especially processing of Alaska pollock, are needed.

"Unfortunately, Alaska pollock, which is making up the bulk of the Russian total catch, is not on great demand in Russia," he said.
