Russia’s food embargo, the depreciation of the ruble and the continued struggle to source high-quality raw material is continuing to put pressure on the country's seafood sector.

“The inability to replace chilled [salmonids] from Norway doesn’t allow the Russian processors to produce a high quality product," one Russian processor not wishing to be named told IntraFish.

"Potential suppliers of salmon such as Chile or Faroe Islands are either too far away or not able to provide sufficient volume of chilled fish."

According to other members of the Russian seafood sector, there is still a strong and unmet demand for pelagic species and salmon in the country, which is holding back the sector.

"Domestic
