When the Russian veterinary authorities just on a year ago said they had found lead and cadmium in Norwegian salmon, they then followed up by instituting an import ban on fresh Norwegian fish to their country.
The comments made by different players on the Norwegian and Russian side did not provide a conclusive picture of why the import ban was introduced, when all examinations made of fish on the Norwegian side did not reveal dangerous levels of lead and cadmium.
Some believed that rival Russian fisheries industry was behind the import ban.
