Russian scientists are recommending opening commercial crab harvesting in a new zone of the Sea of Okhotsk as early as next year, one top researcher told IntraFish.
The area concerned is located in the center of the Sea of Okhotsk and is about 52,000 square kilometers large -- more than the territory of The Netherlands, Switzerland or Belgium.
It became part of Russia in 2014, following a decision by the UN to classify it as a part of the Russian continental shelf.
