Marine Harvest is expected to move further downstream, with Morpol expanding its processing factories in Poland, said Nordea Markets analyst Kolbjorn Giskeodegard, and this was confirmed to IntraFishby Marine Harvest Chairman Ole-Eirik Leroy.
The acquisition allows Marine Harvest to add processing capacity faster than planned, Giskeodegard said.
In terms of synergies, Marine Harvest can now absorb Morpol’s farms with its own farming operations, he said.
It also means Marine Harvest now has access to Morpol’s well-provisioned brands. "It’s a complimentary move -- Marine Harvest, which has a strong brand in the western Europe, can now move into eastern Europe, which has been Morpol’s strong area,” Giskeodegard said.
