The demand for lobster tails is growing this holiday season, with roughly 10 million pounds available and prices half their historical norm.

With substantial increasing landings in recent years, prices have been driven down and that has also opened lobster up to new markets, particularly in Asia, and dramatically increased its popularity, according to Spiros Tourkakis, vice president of Massachusetts-b based East Coast Seafood.

Lobster landings in the United States and Canada have increased 85.5 percent from 159 million pounds in 2003 to 259 million pounds last year, he said.
