Tasmania's abalone industry is hoping a review by academic, Professor Colin Buxton, will help minimize any risks salmon farming may have on the marine environment.
Late last year, the Tasmanian Abalone Council released a report citing their concerns over salmon farms and proposed expansion plans, reported ABC Rural.
In response to that report, the state government has commissioned Buxton to examine the report and provide advice to government.
Buxton is a fisheries researcher and academic, he has recently retired as center director of the Institute of Marine and Antarctic Studies.
Dean Lisson, executive officer of the abalone council, hopes the review will answer some of their unresolved questions.
