Three of the four bluefin stocks are overfished, which means stock abundance is less than that corresponding to a level at which it can support the maximum sustainable yield (MSY), according to a report released this week by James Joseph, chairman of the independent ISSF science committee.
Of the four stocks of yellowfin, one is in an overfished state and the other three are experiencing overfishing, which means fishing mortality is greater than that corresponding to that level needed to sustain the stock at maximum sustainable yield.
