Shrimp workers in Tangiers, Morocco, are reportedly striking today and tomorrow, said a report by a Belgian news website, DeMorgen.be.

The workers are striking over poor working conditions, the report said.

The report said the workers are employed by a shrimp peeling company called Mernissi, which it says works with the Dutch companies Telson and Roem van Yerseke.

A spokesperson for Roem van Yerseke told DeMorgen it was shocked over the news and said the workers’ complaints should be taken seriously. The company would not source from the factory if it does not abide by European directives, the spokesperson said.
