A top level report on the EU fleet suggests member state fleets are becoming steadily more profitable and are reducing fuel consumption.
These figures are contained in the 2013 Annual Economic Report on the EU fleets produced each year by the European Commission’s scientific, technical and economic committee (STECF).
However, the data are distorted to some extent by a failure by some member states to submit data, most notably Spain, Greece and Cyprus.
Data from EU member states indicate the EU fleet was profitable in 2011 -- the latest year for which figures are available.
