The Chilean National Congress is debating a slate of new regulations developed by the Sandoval Commission, a stakeholder group focused on restoring the country’s salmon farming industry.

The creation of so-called salmon “neighborhoods” is one of several measures aimed at rebuilding the country's industry.

Felipe Sandoval, head of the Salmon Roundtable said the agreements reached by the group are just guidelines, and require regulator changes before they can take effect.

“It’s firstly necessary for the changes to the sanitary regulation to be approved, and the neighborhoods have already been geographically defined but that’s nothing.
