The farm is the second in the world to be certified by the International Standards for Responsible Tilapia Aquaculture (ISRTA).

The first was Regal Springs’ tilapia farm in Honduras, which was certified in October last year.

The tilapia aquaculture dialogues were led by the World Wide Fund (WWF) and industry stakeholders as part of the Aquaculture Stewardship Council initiative (ASC).

As the ASC has not set up its verification scheme yet, the ISRTA standards were developed under an agreement between the WWF and GlobalGap to allow aquaculture operations to be audited in the meantime.
