Although the US International Trade Commission (ITC) voted today to continue investigations into shrimp countervailing duties on imported shrimp, debate continues over how such duties will impact the US shrimp industry.

The ITC voted 5-1Thursday morningto continue its concurrent investigation with the US Department of Commerce (DOC) to see whether to impose punitive duties on billions of dollars of imported shrimp from China, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Ecuador to offset what it said are unfair foreign government subsidies.

"[This vote] clears the way for the case to continue," ITC Public Affairs Officer Peg O'Laughlin told IntraFish.

"At
