Health departments in the US states of New Mexico and Arizona reported late last week they have confirmed salmonella poisoning in six and nine residents, respectively, and strongly suspect the source of the outbreak is tainted tuna.

New Mexico Department of Health, the City of Albuquerque Environmental Health Department, and the New Mexico Environment Department are jointly investigating the six cases reported across the state. Five out of the six cases said they had eaten sushi made with raw tuna just prior to the onset of their illnesses, which occured from April 4 - May 1.
