Despite all of the controversy swirling around Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) recertification of Alaska’s salmon fishery, the Purse Seine Vessel Owners Association (PSVOA) remains committed to finishing what it started and getting the fishery recertified, Rob Zuanich of PSVOA told IntraFish.
"We’re equally committed to getting the Prince William Sound fishery recertified,” he added.
PSVOA is the client overseeing the MSC recertification of Alaska salmon on behalf of the industry. The group came forward last year after the Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation decided not to seek recertification of the fishery because eight of Alaska's largest salmon suppliers -- Trident Seafoods, Icicle Seafoods, Ocean Beauty Seafoods, Peter Pan Seafoods, Alaska General Seafoods, E & E Foods, Kwikpak Fisheries and North Pacific Seafoods -- pulled their support for the program.
