Roe-on scallop prices could increase by 10 to 20 percent due to reduced production in Peru, two producers said during the European Seafood Exposition in Brussels, Belgium.

Around half of Peru’s scallop production was wiped out in January due to red tide, poor water and oxygens conditions, said Elihai Radzinski, director of FISA.

That means the country’s total output this year is expected to be half that of 2011, at around 5,000 to 6,000 metric tons, Radzinski told IntraFish.

According to Radzinski, prices for 20/30 roe-on scallop -- which are mainly sold to France -- are likely to be around $16 (€12.1)
