Business for Les Chalut des Deux Ports, one of the largest processors in the port of Lorient, is becoming tougher as retailers grow in power and size, said Managing Director Frederic Scelles.

Times are becoming harder as fish becomes less easy to source and profit margins are tighter, Scelles told IntraFish. “Fish is not easy to get and difficult to sell -- and profit margins are low.”

The fish trade is becoming tougher and more concentrated,” he said. “We have to buy at a price and the supermarkets want to buy at a price, and they know what we are buying fish for.
